periodical of choice

my uncle sent this email fwd to me. it's kinda funny...

THE DEMOGRAPHICS OF AMERICAN NEWSPAPERS

The Wall Street Journal is read by the people who run the country.

The Washington Post is read by people who think they run the country.

The New York Times is read by people who think they should run the country and who are very good at crossword puzzles.

USA Today is read by people who think they ought to run the country but don't really understand The New York Times. They do, however, like their statistics shown in pie charts.

The Los Angeles Times is read by people who wouldn't mind running the country -- if they could find the time -- and if they didn't have to leave Southern California to do it.

The Boston Globe is read by people whose parents used to run the country and did a poor job of it, thank you very much.

The New York Daily News is read by people who aren't too sure who's running the country and don't really care as long as they can get a seat on the train.

The New York Post is read by people who don't care who is running the country as long as they do something really scandalous, preferably while intoxicated.

The Miami Herald is read by people who are running another country but need the baseball scores.

The National Enquirer is read by people trapped in line at the grocery store.

The Oregonian is read by people who have recently caught a fish and need something in which to wrap it.

The San Francisco Chronicle is read by people who aren't sure if there is a country or that anyone is running it; but if so, they oppose all that they stand for. There are occasional exceptions if the leaders are handicapped minority feminist atheist dwarfs who also happen to be illegal aliens from any other country or galaxy, provided of course, that they are not Republicans.

hey now - you're an allstar

on my first week on the job, i had a wonderful opportunity to travel to the NBA Allstar Game in New Orleans. the basketball was great - both from the NBA Allstars, and those from the NBA Development League - but hey - i'm biased. :) i also wandered around with afia to experience some of the dynamic art galleries - and encountered a superb photography exhibit - and certainly did some shopping on the Riverwalk.

more important than the play or the shopping, though, was how we banded together to do community service in the new orleans areas that still need help rebuilding as part of the NBA Cares initiative. despite the rain, the work we did was very fulfilling - and i was pleasantly surprised that the star players who turned up actually worked, and did not just stand around for photo opps. Steve Nash and Jason Kidd came to the house we were painting to lend a hand.

are you DUJEOUS?

when i was a junior at PENN, i met a cat named Aaron. he and his boy Theo gained some prominence as skilled hiphop MCs. when i was a senior, they collaborated to bring an open mic night to campus.

after i left school, Aaron continued his foray into the hiphop world - and soon he and a bunch of his friends from high school formed a group called Dujeous. you can visit their website to learn about them in depth. but suffice it to say, they are a hiphop band that rivals any other i've seen - including the Roots. armed with 3 MCs - a drummer - guitarist - bassist - keyboard player - and a trumpeter, they rock the house everytime. the "duj" have quite a following abroad and just returned from an asia tour. this past saturday, i went to see them at Mercury Lounge here in NYC. awesome.

go check 'em out. they won't disappoint!

mini vacation

i took a mini vacation and hung out in miami for a few days before i start my new job. dex was incredibly gracious to let me crash at his place, while he was in Finland. i got some rest and alot of sun - met new friends - and chilled out with old ones - and visited miami's burgeoning design district. the view from dex's apt is absolutely incredible - there are numerous shots included in the photo array below.

the wing spot : superbowl edition

the wing spot
Originally uploaded by djtakefive.

i went to dan's place to watch the superbowl in brooklyn. upon arrival - he was headed out to pick up the wings/ tenders he ordered at the "wing wagon" on flatbush ave. ok - so, we walked into the freakin' chaos. probably 50 people waiting for their orders!!! people yelling out their names - numbers - time of order/ time they were told to pick up. some cat named Angel apparently ordered to pick up at 5pm. i know this b/c our friend screamed "ANGEL - 5 o'clock!!!!" every 5 minutes. granted, it was 6:10 and he still didn't have his food....

dan, who'd been told to come back at 5:30, missed the full first quarter of the game waiting to get his wings. (6:40pm) i'll be honest, i don't understand the draw to wings personally, but you gotta admire the dedication.

oh - and GO BIG BLUE!!!!
the Giants stood strong tonight.
congrats to Eli, Plaxico, Tyree and the crew.
