clouds. sunset. - with the phone

when i was working for nokia nseries - we did some cool stuff with phones related to art, like this : CANNES 2007

how we pitched the phones (aka 'multimedia computers') to artists was that they weren't replacements for your true equipment, but rather an option when you don't have it - because lets face it, we ALWAYS have our phone these days.

so, despite my owning and using my NIKON D80 (rather) (frequently), sometimes something occurs, and you want to -- NEED to capture it. this sunset was one of those times. so, i pulled out my nokia phone -- and played around with some of the camera settings - and these few shots were the result. not bad if i don't say so myself...

in the booth

My good friend Dustin, a super photographer, set up his new concept STUDIO BOOTH at the latest My Favorite Things party. The deal is: he sets up a cool space - and gives you a prop to get creative with - in this case, a very large PUMA Clyde sneaker. The photos are great quality. Here are a couple of shots I concocted. More shots from other party attendees: here

You like?? Reach out and book Studio Booth for your next party!

yes, they cannes.

last year, i ran Nokia Nseries' sponsorship of the Cannes Lions Ad Festival - with the capable help of my friends at Local Theory. this year, nokia & local theory went back without me. once again, young creatives had 48 hours to make a spot for mtvswitch to spur the world's youth to help the planet. read more about what they did there (and see the winning clip) - here.

my favorite spots from this year's Young Lions competition :

Team Canada Final Film
catchy tune.

Team Germany Final Film
the ending line makes it.

Team Italy Final Film
nice find on the talent - and nice integration with the message.

Team USA Final Film
brilliant editing.

learn somethin' new everyday - beer pouring

Last night Patti and I enjoyed a coupla beers at BUA, a bar/ lounge that I was introduced to by my friend Trevor, the Irishman. Apparently, T.Madigan knows the owners and was their first customer ever when the spot opened 3 years ago. Anyhow, I ordered one of the my favorite beers, Hoegaarden - and was going to have the bar-keep use the same glass for the 2nd pouring (doing my part to save the environment) - but was told that the instructions say not to. A freshly washed glass is always needed.

Wait. There are instructions on how to pour the beer???? Yup.

On the back label (pictured above) it reads:
1) Use Hoegaarden hexagonal glass (line drawing of someone cleaning it with water)
2) Pour 2/3 into glass (drawing of glass being filled)
3) Swirl bottle (bottle in motion)
4) Pour rest to form head (pouring)

Awesome.

Note: no mention of adding a lemon to it, which many bars do -- as Patti might say - "no fruit in my beer!"

the freakout

i saw this on someone's blog, maybe psfk - not sure, a few weeks ago - and now BK has begun airing TVCs driving people to the web to view it. it's a truly clever campaign to showcase how much of an icon their signature sandwich is - and what would happen if it went away. enjoy.

my Xmas present to myself

straight up - AWESOME. this is, in my opinion, the best action 3-pack of the last decade (i'd call Indiana Jones #1, no?). It even comes with a fake Jason Bourne passport with a special 4th disc featuring tons of additional content. holler!!! the Bourne Ultimatum single dvd sold out at my nearest Best Buy and Circuit City stores in 1 hour they said - so I ordered this sucka online - not takin' any chances. if you have not seem them all -- don't fret I may just have a BOURNE trilogy gathering in 2008! i mean it even has the chic from "RUN LOLA RUN" - it really does not get any better than that.

shameless self-promotion

so, i'm in cannes right now. doing what i think is a cool program for Nokia Nseries. we sponsored a competition for 20 teams of young creatives from around the globe here at the advertising festival. they had to shoot a :30 spot in 48 hours using a Nokia Nseries device. (N93i) the teams did some great work and had fun doing it. as cameras get smaller and connected, it will be amazing to see what the happens when they are placed in the hands of such talented individuals. check out the site for my program : here
